PROJECT 2
LECTURES
WEEK 4 - 19/9/2023
For week 4, we started off with our lecture and as always Mr. Martin would let us watch videos for us to better understand whatever he was teaching which was Mise En Scène (Setting the Stage). Later on, Mr. Martin gave us a brief on project 1 and 2 and we were told to kick start our project 2 which was a production shoot. We had to decide roles on the production crew. Lastly, Mr. Martin brought us all to the studio so that we could learn how to use the equipment for our project.
WEEK 5 - 26/9/2023
Mr. Martin was outstation, therefore he gave us our project 2 (production shoot). The class was split into two teams and each team had to shoot their own respective scenes from a movie.
WEEK 6 - 3/10/2023
We learnt about colour corection and colour grading in today's class. Mr. Martin gave us a tutorial on how to do it and we did it by correcting the shots that we took for project 2 last week,
WEEK 7 - 10/10/2023
In week 7, we were introduced to Adobe Audition. We learned how to adjust sounds through parametric equalizer and change the voice to phone call sound, muffled sound, etc. Later on Mr. Martin opened the floor to feedback session for out tiktok storyboard proposal.
WEEK 8 - 17/10/2023
ILW - No class.
WEEK 9 - 24/10/2023
For this week, Mr. Martin started off by showing us how to edit a stop motion video. He showed it on Premier Pro first, then on After Effects. Later on, he gave us time to show him our TikTok Draft and Final Project storyboard and get feedback from him.
INSTRUCTIONS
This project consist of 2 tasks in total. One is a production shoot where the class is split up into two groups and will shoot scenes given by Mr. Martin from a show. After shooting the scenes, each individual from the group had to edit the video by themselves. We were not allowed to follow the original storyboard and had to make our own and make it like a trailer.
The second task was a tiktok video. Each student had to first come up with a proposal and a storyboard of what video they would be shooting along with what song would go along with it. The video had to be around 1 minute long. It was a self-titled video therefore each student had to be the main character in their own video. Later on students will then have to edit their own video in Adobe Premier Pro.

Progress:
Mr. Martin said we shouldn't follow the storyboard and come up with our own, therefore I used the clips we shot to create my own storyboard.

Editing:After that I arranged all the footages and audios into place in Adobe Premier Pro. I even added some voice overs and changed the pitch.

After colour correction I did colour grading. I added adjustment layers to each clip, adjusting the temperature and tint again, also adusting the contrast curves and saturation this time.

Editing:
We were first asked to create a draft and show that to Mr. Martin first. I did that by using the Adobe Premier Pro app.

After the feedback session, I was notified that we could use other apps instead of Premier Pro. I was so relieved and immediately switch to using CapCut. Thankfully I only did a simple draft on Premier Pro.
Putting all the clips together in Capcut:

My first part of the tiktok had a "sad" vibe, so I used a filter on capcut and put it to only 55/100 as I didn't want the filter to come off too strong.

For the second part of the tiktok it was more of a happy vibe, so I used a filter that would make the colours in the video come out as more vibrant.

I wanted two of the scenes to have the sunlight shining through so that the happy and bright vibe would be shown more, so I used a capcut video effect.

After that I did colour grading with all the clips and adjusted each clip to my liking.

FEEDBACK
W9: Tiktok Shoot
"The words at one of the scene is not that visible, can zoom in. Can start to do colour correction so that the scene fits the meaning of each scene. Can use own editing app to your liking, not necessarily need to use premier pro."
REFLECTION
Experience
My experience for the production shoot was amazing! It was my first time ever doing a shoot with an entire team. It felt so real and professional. I learnt so many things. I was the camera assistant that day. As for the TikTok video, it was such a fun experience as well as I got to go and shoot videos for myself and also edit my videos. This experience was quite familiar to me as I usually like to edit videos for my Instagram previously:)
Observation
I noticed that lighting and camera angle are very important when filming a shot. Having the wrong lighting or wrong angle can affect the whole mood of the video that it is initially trying to portray. Teamwork is also very important and everyone has to work together and cooperate with each other in order to successfully film. As for the TikTok video, it works the same as well. Lighting and camera angle are very important. I also observed that taking longer shots and more amount of clips is much more safer. This is so that when editing, you have backup videos in case you don't like some of the videos or it the entire video duration is too short.
Findings
I find that filming for a movie professionally is so much work and takes a lot of time and effort. Our group had 9 clips to film and already took 4 hours. Imagine if it was an entire movie! Therefore I really start to appreciate movie makers more as it is not an easy job. I also appreciate TikTok-ers and content creators much more. It is a lot of work as well. From planning the storyboard to going to film and then to editing your own videos.
