FINAL PROJECT
LECTURES
WEEK 9 - 24/10/2023
For this week, Mr. Martin started off by showing us how to edit a stop motion video. He showed it on Premier Pro first, then on After Effects. Later on, he gave us time to show him our TikTok Draft and Final Project storyboard and get feedback from him.
WEEK 10 - 31/10/2023
This week, we were group into groups of 4 and did a practice shoot for stop motion. Our theme was a halloween theme. Click here to watch the video.
WEEK 11 - WEEK 14 ( 7/11/2023 - 28/11/2023)
There wasn't any classes for these few weeks as we were given time to go to the studio (E1.02) to film our stop motion.
INSTRUCTION
Students are required to produce stop motion video by a given theme. Voice over, sound effects and music can be used, to tell a compelling story. Confine to no more than 2 characters/ locations and only 1 event in less than 15 shots.
My team consisted of just me and my teammate Adora. Both of us had our first few meeting online to discuss our proposal which includes of our storyline, materials to use in our video as well as our storyboard.

CREATING PROPS:
Meet up 1: (Week 11 - 10/11/2023)
After confirming our storyboard, we met up to make the props that will be used in our video.
On the first meet up, we created the main things we had to use in the video. All of them were made from clay.

VIDEO SHOOTING
Meet up 2: (Week 12 14/11/2023)
The next meet up, we met up to set up our set as well as started to film.

Mid way we noticed that we forgot to make our axe and cigarette, so we quickly made them.

Meet up 3: (Week 13 - 21/11/2023)
First we filmed our arson scene which I was really proud of. The oil pouring out looked rather smooth.

We also made the smoke today, we used cotton and a sharpie marker for that.
Meet up 4: (Week 13 - 22/11/2023)
Today we also planned to film the fire scene. We wanted to make the fire today with glass paper, however it wasn't turning out well so we decided to use clay instead.

Then we filmed the koala looking at its dead family. We just use the koalas from before. We removed the eyes and just used a marker to draw X(s) on the eyes.

EDITING
Meet up 5: (Week 14 - 29/11/2023)
Today we met up to edit our video. We started off by first organising all the pictures by putting them into their respective folder scenes. Later when we start to edit, we struggled a bit as we kind of forgot how to start and change the settings. After watching a tutorial, we edited each scene.

Meet up 6: (Week 14 - 1/12/2023)
We met up again to edit our video, today we added sound effects to our video.

For the fire scenes at the end, we did some colour grading to make the atmosphere darker.

After completing the editing of the main video, we added our title to the front and some statements to the end.
FINAL SUBMISSION OF STOP MOTION:
FEEDBACK
W9:
"The first and last scene of the storyboard can take away. Can add a scene that would give more impact, like showing the dead koalas."
W11:
"Don't need to use a box for the set, can just past the manila card onto the wall as the background"
REFLECTION
Experience
Honestly, this was my favourite and most fun assignment to work on! It was my first time making a stop motion video and I learnt many new things. It definitely tested my patience because you have to move the props after every single picture. I had a good time doing this assignment and I would say everything went really well as my teammate and I had really good teamwork. Both of us worked really well together and if we had any ideas or something we had opinions about, we could always voice it out to each other.
Observation
I observed that even during the shooting of the stop motion, things can change as well. Not everything will work well and not everything will go smoothly, so slight changes have to be done throughout and we have to work flexibly. I also observed that planning is very important, once you miss out something or miscalculated the amount of scenes, things might start to go south.
Findings
During our research to look for visual reference, I was wowed and amazed by how professional the stop motions people make are. The details on it are so creative and I truly start to appreciate these creators and designers so much more! As from my own personal experience, creating just a 1 minute stop motion takes LOTS of time and LOTS of effort. It isn't something that can be done in a single day.
