LECTURES

WEEK 5 - Lecture 5 (3/5/2023)
In today's class, Mr. Hafiz started off the class with a 3D rainbow tutorial using the Adobe Illustrator app. We watched a YouTube video tutorial and Mr. Hafiz also demonstrated it. After that, we also learned 3D fonts and intertwine. I struggled slightly one the intertwining part which made my work look a bit messy.

After the consultation by Ms. Anis, she suggested a few things to further improve my poster.

  • She first suggested I pulled the water lower to make sort of a splash effect and also to eliminate the negative space.

  • After that, Ms. Anis showed me a picture online on how I can make the splash have more "oomph". I used a reference which is the picture below to trace the water splash.

  • Lastly, Ms. Anis suggested to make it look even better I added some reversed rays to the splash.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 6 - (Consultation Session - Poster)
  • Need more illustrated type in the poster (Can use sea animals and rubbish and incorporate it into the letters)
  • The illustrated typeface can be stacked on the plate - Choose 1 tagline as the focus (Sketch out more things first)
WEEK 9 - (Consultation Session - Poster)
  • Pull the water lower as the current shape is very abrupt and awkward. Pulling it lower can eliminate the negative space as well.
  • Create a water splash effect hitting the bowl so it has more effect.
  • Can add water rays to the splash as well.

REFLECTION

Experience
Overall, this project really helped my skills in the Adobe Illustrator app get better. I got more familiarized with the tools like the pen tool, shape builder, curvature tool etc. Though there were times where I struggled to create something or think of ideas, I still pulled through and created something. Also with the help of Mr. Hafiz and Ms. Anis, their feedback and suggestions helped me further improve my poster as well.

Observation
I found that the 3D effect really helps enhance a piece of drawing. At first my drawing looked dull and boring. However when I added the 3D effect, it looked like a totally new piece of art! I also observed that the way an artwork is created and presented is extremely important. At first, my water splash looked extremely dull. After some fixes and alterations, it looks so much better and had more "life" to it.

Findings
I find that poster are not as simple as it seems to be. Even simple posters take time and effort. It is certainly not easy to create a poster, it can take days, weeks and months. I now look at posters a different way, seeing how the artist's minds works by piecing things together amazes me.
