REFLECTION
EXPERIENCE
I would say that my experience during the entire module of typography was alright though I did have some ups and downs. I had many first experiences like creating a layout or designing my own font. I struggled through the course because there were many things that were new to me that I had to get use to. Example, using new apps like Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign. Though there were struggles, seeing me being able to finish each assignment and seeing the final product I created myself was really satisfying. I learnt many new things and picked up new skills as well.
OBSERVATIONS
I observed that typography pays extremely close attention to detail. Like the strokes, thickness of brush, font size, alignment etc. There's also many many rules to follow but each rule is there for a reason, and each rule helps to guide me on how to maneuver my way through typography. I also find my comparing my own font I designed with other fonts. Seeing how other fonts are so perfect, I often think to myself that I need more practice.
FINDINGS
Through this semester, I find that typography isn't as easy as it seems. Much thought and process goes into it, therefore we should not look down on it. I find that out of all the modules I did during the semester, typography pays most attention to detail. For example, anatomy, leading, kerning & tracking etc. Therefore I shall repeat, typography is not an easy thing to master. Lastly, I find that we have to observe and study many other different designs of fonts in order to come up with good ones.
